Matt Taylor

I build the infrastructure, automation, and internal platforms that run enterprise IT.

Charlotte, NC · Fifteen years in IT · Hands-on

Most of what I know I picked up because I wanted to know it. That turns into a home lab in a closet, a workshop in the garage, and two businesses I built and still run.

What I'm good at

Hybrid Microsoft estates, end to end

Azure and Microsoft 365 across a national, multi-site estate. Networking, identity, endpoints, security.

Automation, and now agent engineering

Python and PowerShell daily, with a production Claude agent and an MCP server on top.

The integration layer underneath

Keeping identity consistent across systems never designed to talk to each other.

AI governance, as code

Company-wide policy, a developer handbook, and admin config shipped by pull request.

Shipping product as a discipline

Three mobile platform generations, a league platform on Cloudflare Workers, this site.

The technical call other teams come for

BI, data, and Power Platform teams escalate to me. None of them report to me.

Hands-on, even when the title isn't

An IT Director who still writes the scripts and runs the migrations.

Latest role

Oct 2022 – Present

IT Manager → IT Director · National food brokerage

I build the automation and integration layer under a national food brokerage's hybrid Microsoft estate: Python and PowerShell against Microsoft Graph, an AI operations platform on Supabase, a production Claude agent on Azure Functions. Hired as IT Manager in Oct 2022, IT Director since May 2024, while the business grew from 455 employees to 1,026 across 80+ sites through acquisition and by pulling MSP scope in-house. I never stopped writing the code.

  • Own the company's AI program end to end: authored the corporate AI Policy and a separate AI-Assisted Development Policy, backed by a 22-section developer handbook and a repo template that makes compliance the fast path. The policies apply company-wide; licensing is a phased rollout across GitHub Copilot Pro+ (from 2024) and Claude for Teams (from early 2026), with the admin configuration version-controlled and applied by pull request rather than edited in a console.
  • Unified six IT source systems (Freshservice, Microsoft Graph, ScreenConnect, Meraki, Bitdefender, Action1) into one Supabase store, exposed them to Claude through an MCP server as a single governed connector, and put a ticket agent on top that reasons over the whole ticket, escalates through a Haiku→Sonnet→Opus cascade, and confirm-gates every action that changes state.

Off the clock

A sauna, a smart mirror, a rack in a closet. I like building things whether or not they are software.
